Event Description:
The South Barber FFA will host their 50
th
annual invitational livestock judging contest on
Wednesday, February 28, 2018
. The contest will be held at the South Barber High School, in Kiowa, KS. Registration will be from 8:00-8:45 a.m. in the gymnasium, followed by instructions at 8:45, and the judging starting at 9:00.
The contest will include classes of cattle, hogs, sheep, and goats with oral reasons. A-team contestants will be giving two sets of reasons, and Freshman will give one set of reasons and answer questions on the other class. There will be two divisions of contestants, A-team and Freshman division. The A-team will consist of Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors; and the Freshman division will be for
Freshman and Junior High FFA members only
, regardless of the experience of upper-class members. Each chapter will have only one A team and one Freshman team consisting of all contestants participating from that chapter making up that team. Therefore, a chapter will need at least three contestants to have a team, but may have as many as twelve, fifteen, twenty, etc on a team. Team scores will be tabulated by adding the highest
three
individuals on the team in each respective division. The awards will consist of five team plaques and ten individual awards in the A-team division, and five team plaques and ten individual awards in the Freshman division. There will also be an individual award for the high combined reasons scores in both the A-team and Freshman divisions.
